A few posts ago, we mentioned that the Organisation for Timeshare in Europe (OTE) were holding a writing competition. They invited timeshare owners to sum up in about 500 words why they loved their timeshare. A number of Club Olympus owners entered and here is one of the entries. This was written by Cathy Antony from Swansea. Cathy and husband Chris have owned with us since 1990. This is Cathy’s entry:-
My timeshare at Club Olympus - Garden City Tenerife
Our timeshare will always hold a special place in my heart…..
It is the place where I spent my first ever holiday with my Husband.
It is the place where he asked me to marry him just 2 weeks after us meeting -I blamed the Sangria in the pool bar! Or was it too much sun!
It is the place where we got engaged 3 months later, and where we returned for our honeymoon, bringing all the family with us.
It is the place where I learnt that I was going to be a grandmother.
It is the place our children and grandchildren visit every year. And I know it will be the place all future generations of our large family will grow to love as well.
Sadly it is also the place where I learnt that my beautiful baby nephew had died.
It was also the place that helped us sort out a quick flight home… and the comforting place we returned to after the funeral.
It is a place I return to as often as possible - I have never visited another RCI resort - nothing could ever beat this special place.
Club Olympus may not be Five Star but for the warm welcome we receive every time we stay, I would consider it the best resort in the Directory.
It is the place I consider my home in the sun -as soon as I step off the plane I feel myself relaxing, emotionally and physically, knowing that my family and I are in safe hands, as the Staff on Club Olympus are second to none.
It is the place our Grandchildren learnt to swim, it is the place we play bingo and do the quiz - but rarely win! - one day that commemorative t-shirt will be mine!
It is the place where said “never in a millions years would you see me on that stage”…… It was then the place where Davy O’ Neil told me I had “shattered the myth that all Welsh people could sing”. …..Don’t worry Davy, I have imposed a lifetime ban…It is now the place where I shall never sing Karaoke again… But you never know with lots of encouragement (or cider!) I may, make a (welcome?) return.
It is the place where I overcame my fear of birds (well, sitting next to the stage and watching an amazing Lorro show and managing to smile my way through the photos convinced my grandson anyway!)
It is the place where visitors are always known by their first names, where the team never seem to forget a face - how they manage this I will never know! You always feel you are back amongst old friends.
It is the place where I can watch the soaps, the x-factor and casualty to name but a few or where I can be found sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool whilst enjoying a fresh croissant or a large glass of wine - just like being at home with the added bonus of maid service and of course the sunshine!
It is the place not too far from anywhere - the beach, the sea, the Aqua Park, Mount Teide, the harbour, the jungle park, the Lorro park, the many boutiques, the list is endless and of course, the eagerly awaited Siam park.
It is the place that recommended we sample the world famous Adeje chicken! It’s their fault that I will never be slim… it’s the place that advertises the gym that I never use.
It is the place where I can choose to dine or have too many “lemonades” like the many celebrities to be found on the Island (the only difference is my face won’t be all over the newspapers the following morning). The staff at Club Olympus are always very discreet!
It is the place where so many wonderful memories have been made and where so many more are yet to come!

Dear Club Olympus Members
Please be advised that a number of so called “Resale” companies are still aggressively calling our members and offering “too good to be true” deals.
If any resale company calls you then they have obtained your number by illegal, unauthorised or fraudulent means. This should immediately make you suspicious!
We DO NOT give out your contact details to anyone so if they are calling you then it is not a good start. Under no circumstances should you give your credit card details to these callers no matter how credible they sound. Please, please, please be careful. The Organisation for Timeshare in Europe (OTE) has given repeated warnings about this type of operation. Most of these companies are only interested in obtaining your “registration fee” and then you will hear very little else.
Give our Bradford Head Office at Leeming Wells a call if you are receiving unsolicited calls. We are compiling a list of companies and their methods for the OTE which will go to their enforcement agency in an ongoing effort to stop these companies.
As we mentioned a couple of posts earlier, The OTE (Organisation for Timeshare in Europe) are holding a writing competition for timeshare owners. They would like an article of between 500 to 800 words describing why you love your timeshare. Entries should be emailed to Sue McNicol of the OTE on smcnicol@btinternet.com
There is a first prize of 200 Euros, a second prize of 100 Euros and a third prize of 50 Euros. Entries may be published on the OTE website and in Newsletters.
A number of Olympus owners have already submitted entries which we will publish shortly on this blog. If you submit an entry to OTE then please send me (Ivan) a copy to sales@olympusworld.com or info@olympusworld.com so that we can publish them anyway on our blog.

The OTE are the main trade body for timeshare resorts in Europe. All members adhere to a strict code of ethics and protocols which are recognised at government level throughout Europe. Club Olympus are founder members of the OTE.

Yes I managed to get a quick shot of Suzanne our In-House Team Leader in the famous dress. We haven’t seen it for a while but here it is! She tells me it’s a lovely cool dress for a hot Tenerife, August Day and that she has many other dresses, hmmm. Anyway Suzanne said to say Hi to everybody if she was going to appear on the Club Olympus “Blog”.
As part of the Olympus Group we have a small English style Pub down at the fishing village of Los Abrigos. The Red Rock Cafe was recently taken on by our old friend Mike Booth and his partner Marie.
The Red Rock is beautifully furnished and is very much in the style of a traditional English/Irish Pub but with a continental flavour and is well worth a visit. A unique feature of the Red Rock is its situation right by the sea. The Bar has fabulous sea views and looks right over the Red Rock at El Medano as you can see below. The Red Rock mountain (Montana Rojo in Spanish) is one of the first things that visitors to Tenerife see, as the airport runway goes right past it.
Los Abrigos is a fishing village about 15 minutes away from Playa De Las Americas and is famed for its Seafood restaurants. Many of our guests at Club Olympus use the restaurants in Los Abrigos then dive into the Red Rock for a “swifty” before they head back to the resort. If you need an excuse to get out for a drive and a change of scenery then visiting Los Abrigos and The Red Rock is a lovely start. Mike and Marie know many of our owners and guests after working with us at Club Olympus for a long time and will be delighted to see you.
You can get to Los Abrigos easily and cheaply by Taxi or if you have a hire car you simply drive on the TF-1 motorway towards the airport and come off at Las Chafiras (the junction before the airport), signposted “Los Abrigos, El Medano, San Miguel”. Follow the signs from the roundabout to Los Abrigos, go left at the Los Abrigos roundabout towards El Medano for about half a mile and look for Calle (street) La Marea on the right. The Red Rock Cafe is at the bottom of there - easy! Or just ask our on-site team at Garden City for directions.

Sorry we have had no updates for the last couple of weeks, I have been away on hols and business. Most of my time was spent in the UK where it has rained every single day except for one! Got back into Tenerife last night and it is scorching! I will get things back up to date starting today. I am also training up daughter Cassie to keep posts flowing in my absence. As you can imagine, Tenerife erupted into a night of mad partying last night after Spain defeated Russia in the Euro 2008 semi-final. Fireworks and car horns could be heard late into the night as Tenerife celebrated Spain’s spectacular win. Their 3 nil victory puts them into the final with Germany on Sunday. This will be Spain’s first appearance in a final for 24 years.
We will of course be watching the final in the Club Olympus Poolside Bar. If you are here on holiday in Tenerife then do come and join us.
The final is being shown on June 29th live at 7:45 pm (British Summer Time) 8:45 (Central European Time). In Tenerife our clocks are always the same as the UK. Link here for a very cool timezone world map.
Ex St Helens and Leigh Rugby League star Gary Ainsworth was back on his hols at Garden City with his family. Gary brought a fully signed St Helen’s rugby shirt from this last season and presented it to Marco Atkin in the Poolside Bar.
Gary’s main career was at Leigh Rugby Club in Lancashire. They are now known as ‘Leigh Centurions’ as the Club has been in existence for more than a hundred years. During the 1985/86 season Gary was at St Helens and played an important part in that years successful campaign.
46 year old Gary still plays Rugby every week in his home town of Oldham
