We have a new addition to the team down at Club Olympus.

Kate Olds is now heading up the Kids Club and Animation team.

Kate on the left is from Barnstaple in Devon and has been in Tenerife for a almost a couple of months. She has extensive experience in looking after children and is thoroughly enjoing her new role at Club Olympus. She is ably supported by Gabby Rhodes who has been part of the team since leaving school earlier this year. Gabby has assisted the Kids Club during the last couple of summers and is well known by everybody.

Keep-fit enthusiast Kate said “it’s a delight to be involved at Club Olympus and it’s pleasure to welcome Club Olympus owners and guests down to the resort, oh and don’t think you are going to wriggle out of the Aqua-Aerobics!!”

It’s not often that we have the In-House Team all together with Hedley and Jane Rhodes at the same time. So I grabbed the opportunity to get a shot of them as they all wanted to say hello to our owners at Club Olympus and to guests who might be on their way down. Firstly the girls!

One of the most well-known team members at Club Olympus is Juan Cabrera. Who is Juan Cabrera? I hear you ask, well you probably do know him if you are an owner at Club Olympus or have visited us before because it is Juan who normally takes your suitcases up to the apartment.

Juan (full title: Juan Jesus Morales Cabrera) has been Chief Porter with Club Olympus for more than 13 years! The post was previously held by Juan’s brother Javier (pictured below) who is now part of our maintenance team.

45 year old Juan and brother Javi are very well liked members of the Olympus team and have been with us for a long time. The Cabrera family are originally from El Tanque in the north of Tenerife. Juan currently lives in the beautiful village of Buena Vista near Garachico in the north of the Island. On our changeover days he drives for over an hour to be at his post in the Club Olympus reception.

When Juan is not working he thoroughly enjoys DIY and home improvements but his real passion, as it is for many Canarians, is game shooting. In the Canary Islands hunting is hugely popular but very strictly controlled and there are specific seasons for each type of game. For Juan, the sport is all about being out in the fresh air, exercising the dogs and the camaraderies involved, oh and the odd rabbit for Sunday lunch!

Next time Head Porter Juan is taking your cases up to your apartment, at least you know a little more about him.

After acquiring the Leeming Wells Hotel some years ago we converted one floor into office space and the rest continues as a delightful boutique hotel. The hotel facilities include a heated indoor pool, sauna and exercise area, bar and conference area. Directly next door is the famous Dog and Gun Pub and Restaurant.

Mick and Kath Roper are the landlords of the Dog and Gun and also manage the Hotel side of Leeming Wells for us. This relationship dovetails nicely as guests at the hotel generally use the dining facilities of the Dog and Gun and Mick and Kath are permanently on site.

The area is called Leeming Wells because the whole area is full of water wells, we even have one in our car park. When having lunch or dinner at the Dog and Gun you can literally sit over a well!

Leeming Wells is situated in beautiful countryside but the Cities of Leeds and Bradford are within easy striking distance as are the towns of Bingley and Keighley. This makes it an ideal base for our business but is also brilliant for guests at the hotel.

Oxenhope is the next door village to Haworth, the home of the Bronte sisters who were responsible for such literary greats as Wuthering Heights (Emily), Jane Eyre (Charlotte) and Agnes Gray (Anne). Haworth is a fabulous place to explore and is rich in history. Also nearby is the Worth Valley Steam Railway with a station in Oxenhope.

The surrounding wild countryside and moorland is heaven for walkers and for those who really appreciate wildlife.

Leeming Wells is a wonderful base for our UK operations and as the link between our owners and guests who come out to Tenerife.

Many Club Olympus owners come and stay at our very pleasant little hotel for a holiday or short break.

The current rates are £70 for a double room per night, including breakfast or £50 for a single room per night, including breakfast.

Continuing our brief team member profiles, can we introduce Hugo.

Another of our valued Reception Team is Hugo Delgado Sanchez. 30 years old Hugo (pronounced Ugo in Spanish) is from the famous northern Spanish City of Santiago De Compostela in Galicia. He has lived in Tenerife for about 5 years and has been with Club Olympus for 1 year. He lived and studied in London for more than a year to perfect his English and really enjoyed his time in the UK.

Pictured above with Assistant Resort Manager Lupe Ortega, Hugo is a very chilled out guy. He just loves crashing on the beach with a good book. His friendly approach and easy going manner make him a hit with our owners and guests.

He looks forward to welcoming you to Club Olympus on your next visit and says “Hasta pronto” or “see you soon”.

Over the next few weeks we will do brief profiles on our staff here at Club Olympus.  To begin with, can we introduce you to one of our Reception Team Members, Jose (pronounced Hosay).

Jose, who’s full name is Jose Carlos Brito Reyes, is originally from Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife. He is 32 years old and has been one of our valued reception team for nearly four years. He speaks Spanish of course but is also very fluent in English and also speaks moderate German.

Jose is a great lover of the outdoors, he is into hiking, sports in general, music and dancing (he is a real mover apparently!!)

Pictured above is the Club Olympus Reception which is soon to undergo a major refurbishment. The Reception is open for 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. We can assist with any excursion that is available in Tenerife and provide a money exchange service. We have a courtesy lounge next to reception with showers and changing rooms. Reception provides internet access and instant assistance in the case of an emergency. There is an ATM (Cash) machine in Reception (which you can’t miss because it’s as big as a house!). We always have English speaking staff available. Our team members also speak French, Italian, German and we have Russian, Dutch and Chinese (Mandarin) speakers also on hand. Our reception team are here to help and look forward to welcoming you to Club Olympus.

The In-house and management team are raring to go in 2008 and ready to look after you all when you are out on your hols this year. Tenerife as an island is in great shape and the infrastructure has improved beyond all recognition. The resort is looking terrific and our improvement programme is in full swing so get down to Club Olympus as soon as you can this year. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Recent Health and Safety legislation in Spain has made it mandatory to have the presence of an official lifeguard during set hours at swimming pools of various sizes. The Community of Garden City, of which Club Olympus is a major part, has a contract with an officially approved agency who make sure that we have a lifeguards on duty at the statutory times. We would like to introduce you to Roberta who is our current main lifeguard (Socorrista in Spanish).

Fully qualified Roberta Bornaghi is from Milan, Italy. Roberta is very much a “people person” and loves to interact with everyone on holiday. A winning personality, great smile and interest in people ensures that she is a hit with everyone on the resort.

Towards the end of the year the Club staff have a bit of a thrash. This is done by the Club to say thank you for a job well done this year. The staff include the Housekeeping team, Maintenance team, Gardening team and Office team. See if you can recognise any of the faces from the following shots taken by Alan, our Resort Manager. Who are these three lovely ladies?

Well we threw you a bit of a curve ball because the lady on the left is one of our longstanding owners, Caroline Patterson who happened to be in the Poolside Bar at the same time, in the middle is Elvira (house-keeping Team-Leader) and on the right is Lupe (assistant Resort Manager).

Okay, who is this?

On lead guitar and obviously having a very boring evening is one of our star house-keeping team members Rosario. She has been with us for nearly 14 years and is usually teamed up with Emma, they are normally spotted wearing large straw hats and falling about laughing, you know who they are!

On the left we have Miguel-Angel (maintenance), in the middle, looking as though she is hating every second of being cuddled by two big guys, is Sue Simons (Reservations Team-Leader) and on the right is Evelio (maintenance Team-Leader).

Elvira has been with Club Olympus for about 15 years and is well known to all our guests.

Here is Javier (maintenance) looking dead cool at the bar. Javi (pronounced ‘Habi’) started life at Club Olympus as one of our porters, then progressed to maintenance. His brother Juan is now chief porter.

Directly at the rear of Garden City, situated between the lifts is Hedley’s Gym. This popular ‘keep fit’ venue has had a very busy year as Club Olympus timeshare owners and many other guests to Garden City strive to maintain their physical fitness.

Personal trainer and qualified instructor Lynn Sharpe (above) runs a tight ship at Hedley’s Gym. Lynn has lived in Tenerife for many years and has been chief instructor at Hedley’s Gym for the last 7 years. Originally from Leeds, Lynn trained in physical fitness at Leeds University.

Hedley’s Gym, while not the largest gym in the world is certainly well equipped and fits the requirements of most people. As well as lots of free weights, exercise machines and multigyms there are beautiful changing rooms, sauna and shower facilities. Lynn provides personal training, diet plans, fitness regimes and personal training programmes for both beginners and advanced students alike.

The Gym is open from 10am until 6pm and welcomes everybody to train and learn in a warm, friendly and non-competative atmosphere here in the beautiful surroundings of the island of Tenerife.

Prices are 3 Euros per day, 8 Euros per week or 13.5 Euros per fortnight. Sauna is 3 Euros per person per half hour.
